Title: Creative Commissioner

Report to: Director of Communications

 

General Description

The Creative Commissioner is part of the development of a communications strategy that includes implementing operational plans that enable SGA to accomplish its mission statement of advocating for the student body. As a member of the Commissioner Team, each commissioner should both strengthen organizational development, as well and bring solid strategic thinking about the role and responsibility of all facets of the communications efforts, which include: publication, media relations, graphics, video, web-based media, and public information.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Effectively communicate SGA projects to the ASB through various forms of media
  • Devise and implement marketing strategies for each project throughout the term (ie. Posters, Social Media, etc.)
  • Freshmen Orientation and House of Representative recruitment marketing
  • Help create Mid-Year and End-of-the-Year Reports which summarize SGA’s semesterly achievements to be presented to the Board of Trustees
  • Work on media marketing for the Elections Committee for Homecoming Court elections and SGA Elections
  • Meet with the Communications Team once a week and individually with the Director of Communications biweekly

 

Qualifications

  • Having knowledge of Final Cut, Adobe Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Illustrator, InDesign, Squarespace, or WordPress is a plus
  • Be a full time, undergraduate member of APU as defined by the Registrar
  • Have a grade point average of at least 2.70 (cumulative)
    • During one full semester prior to term of office
    • Maintained throughout the term of office
  • All Commissioner members must be prepared to hold office from Fall through Spring
  • All Commissioner members must proclaim and adhere to the University Statement of Faith
  • Have attended the University for at least two semesters upon beginning the position
  • Commissioners may not take more than 18 units or less than 12 units during tenure
  • Commissioners may not hold any executive on-campus leadership positions during tenure
  • Commissioners may not work over 12 hours per week outside of SGA

 

General Duties

  • Attend all Student Senate meetings that will be held Wednesdays from 4:30-6:30pm
  • Serve on committees as appointed by the President and approved by the Student Senate
  • Attend and participate in Student Forums unless excused by the President
  • Attend at least one multicultural event each semester
  • Keep a minimum of 10 office hours per a week
  • Meet once biweekly with the Director of Communications to evaluate progress and set goals which will be written and recorded
  • Work with the Director of Communications to develop constant communication with his/her respective constituency or area of responsibility
  • Attend all MANDATORY retreats and orientations that are as follows:
    • Summer Retreat/ Orientation Training
    • Spring Retreat

 

*If the candidate does not meet one of these requirements, the candidate can choose to petition the student senate to be allowed to run and hold office.  In this case, please contact the current Director of Communications.
